last day of the year
Last day of the year, and what a dreary day! It has gotten cold and cloudy --- the river looks depressing! Maybe tomorrow will look better. :)

night sky
Nothing special about this -- I was leaving the grocery store and looked up and liked the colors. :) It's been raining all day, but it's been in the low 60's though, so I won't complain.

train traffic
In the middle of the day, a train goes through downtown Van Buren. It then stops for a while, so the only way from one half to the other is to got this way -- under a bridge off one of the side roads. It can be a lot of traffic, too!

snow man 2
It was best to take this at dusk so you could see the inside. They also have "snow" falling inside of it, but the photo couldn't get that. :(

mystery grave
These stones are in the middle of Fairview Cemetery in Van Buren. They were first seen by the first settlers that came here in the early 1800's. We'll never know, I guess but it makes a great story.

sunset
I know that I had a shop of a sunset at the river a few weeks ago, but I never get tired of seeing them.

Merry Christmas!

snowman
It was pretty warm today, but the snowman hung in! Two more days!

drink it?
At the end of Main Street, this gutter runs from under a chicken plant, under a road and into the river. Why in the world would you see this and want to drink it??

sunset
School's off now for two weeks. I'll spend many hours on the road. :)

night lights
I saw this last night while driving through Fort Smith.

cloudy and warm
It was cloudy and windy today. Warm, though. Got up around 70f.

band room?
I drove down this road today and was shocked! This is were the Jr. High lunch room and band room were.
It's now called Butterfield J.H., one of the two in Van Buren. When I went there, though, it was the only one and was called Van Buren Jr. High.
I was in 8th grade when the band room was finished. (1979) Not that long ago.....

The Canadian Brass
I went to Fayetteville last night and saw The Canadian Brass. It was great! I also saw them 20 years ago at the University of Kansas, and it was great to see them again.
I lucked out on getting 4th row seats, so I sneaked the camera in and got this shot. I wasn't brave enough to hold it up and flash it! :)

Christmas tree
It's finally up -- no presents yet, but soon it will be full. :)
Tuesday, December 12, 2006,5:26 PM
morning fog
This is the view up my road this morning. After two days of rain, the clouds left and the temperature went up. This was the result.

riverside
This is just a view at the river at sunset. It's staying rather warm now, so I'm enjoying it. :)

hall way
They are adding classrooms to our school, so this part of the school is torn up and dreary. It didn't dampen the spirits of these kindergartners, though. :)

Women's Literary Club
This is the Women's Literary Club building down town. It was the place for the Van Buren Library when I was a kid. Originally it was the building for the 1st Presbyterian Church. One memory from my childhood was to learn that one of the windows in this building was hit by a cannon shot when the North army invaded Van Buren during the war.

Snow Man
Well, this is the first of my Christmas lights. Not sure if I'm going to do more, though. :)

Court House
I know this is crooked -- my battery was dying and I did it too fast! I'll go back and get a better shot soon.
This is our county court house. It's been there since the mid-1800's. It was damaged when the northerners came through, but was repaired and has stood since then.

full moon
I decided to show a shot from my poetry blog. It was the only interesting shot I had today. :)
Tuesday, December 05, 2006,6:46 PM
Lee Creek
This is a shot at Lee Creek early in the morning. The steam is rising, but I don't know where it came from. It hasn't been been warm for days!

King Opera House
This building was built in the late 1800's. In the early 1900's is was changed into a movie theater called the "Bob Burns Theater." Burns was sort of a famous person from here. He was in some movies and even invented a musical instrument. In the early '80's it was remodeled to it's original state. I spent a few years in the "King Opera House Players" doing plays and musicals. It was a lot of fun. Still goes on, I think. The inside is wonderful, so maybe I'll get in there and take some shots.

houses
These are two old houses in Van Buren seen from a bridge. (I had my piano lessons in the one on the left.) They stick out when you look that way. I can imagine that it looked the same in the early 1900's.

snow
As you can see, we did get some of the snow. Not much, though. Enough to keep us out of school, so I get a three day weekend!
